about

Based in Porto since 2011, Angélica Salvi is a Spanish harpist and composer specialized in improvisation, contemporary music and electroacoustics. Having collaborated with dozens of other composers, improvising musicians, orchestras and ensembles, she has complemented her classical and jazz education with frequent and transdisciplinary incursions into pop, rock and electronics. In a passionate review of her exquisite first solo album, Phantone (2019), critic and musicologist Rui Eduardo Paes thanks Angélica for her “redeeming music, music that saves us, that makes us keep resisting and going on.”

Even though Angélica was traveling with her smallest harp, it was not an easy task to fit it through the narrow orange stairs that lead down to VIC’s basement for the 2017 edition of MEIA. But the opportunity to witness her live collaboration with Clara Saleiro, Laetitia Morais, Miguel Carvalhais and Pedro Tudela was definitely worth the struggle. When, in early 2020, we attended her live presentation of Phantone at GrETUA, we knew in our hearts that Angélica’s presence in this compilation was absolutely necessary. Somewhere between pure bliss and pure shock, to say that her performance was touching would be the greatest understatement ever.
