about

In "MASA", Laura departs from a scientific study published in 2018, according to which sound waves carry mass or, more precisely, negative mass. In the presence of a gravitational field, this mass forces its trajectory upwards, which could mean that sound waves are, in a sense, a form of antigravity.

She began to wonder about those gravitational and vibrational fields that had faded or vanished altogether during the pandemic, like the sounds of gatherings, choirs, protests, concerts, even funerals.

Romero turned to her own sound archive hoping to somehow rescue those vibrations, and combined them with a free adaptation of César Vallejo’s poem "MASA" and Alexandre Sacha Sakharov’s expanded violin, while following the orientation of Séan Street’s reflection in “The Sound of a Room”: "With sound, I immerse myself in the moment again, reliving it through the time it took to happen in the first place. It is that slow revelation of identification that is an essential part of the experience of a recording, put into memory."
