about

Based on three auditory scenes, Three Locations was recorded in central Amsterdam during the first lockdown, somewhen between April and May 2020.

The sound piece conveys the changes produced by the pandemic throughout three urban areas that used to be overcrowded with mass tourism and are currently being reclaimed by the city’s inhabitants.

An evocation of both the natural acoustics of these spaces and the human response of re-purposing the public space and bringing music back into the streets: "Sitting on the side stairs of Paradiso, a legendary venue now closed, I decide to run the recorder for a bit. I can hear music coming from somewhere in the distance and, all of a sudden, a tricycle arrives from around the corner. (...) Outside the closed Apple store a saxophone busker is playing. I have never seen him there or heard him before. With the lack of bodies, the tones cascade freely over the plain."
